Info-Artist: Robert-Emile Fortin


ROBERT-EMILE FORTIN, born in Hull, Quebec, Canada in 1945. He paints since 1972 and become a professional painter in 1973 leaving his lucrative employment as a graphist in the Federal Civil Service. He then devote all his time in raising his two daughters with his abstract Art. From 1972 to 1976 he paints as a self-taught artist in abstraction only. After a three years teaching contract in the primary school of Ottawa, Hull/Gatineau, he discover the naïve art and drawings from the thousand of kids to whom he taught abstract painting. Follows therefore from 1977 to 1983 a abondant painting production in naïve art, which he was selling as he went. A remarkable event in his career was the discovery of silkscreen printing from 1983 to 1988. Fortin was drawings on everything subject inimaginable. He personnaly printed 5000 silkscreen prints, with no more than 20 to 40 numbered prints per drawings. In 1989 he took up his paintbrushes and canvas with a renewed vigor, and created in the summer of 1993, 200 abstract paintings so he could redefined his color palette. In 1997 he moved to the Laurentians to find new inspiration and painted hundreds of paintings as his career took off once more as this Web Page demonstrate very well:
